About Bristol Airport

Bristol Airport is one of the UK's leading regional airports, serving millions of passengers each year across a wide range of domestic and international destinations. As passenger demand rebounded following the pandemic, the airport remained focused on enhancing the overall travel experience while creating new opportunities for commercial growth.

Airport lounges play an important role in that strategy, providing passengers with a comfortable and relaxing environment before they travel. Bristol Airport recognised an opportunity to reimagine its lounge offering, creating a premium experience that would meet growing passenger demand while maximising the value of its terminal space.

The challenge

Following the global pandemic, Bristol Airport experienced strong passenger growth and rising demand for premium airport experiences. However, its existing lounge offering was no longer meeting passenger expectations.

Customer feedback highlighted low satisfaction levels, capacity constraints and operational inefficiencies. Commercially, the lounges were also underperforming, limiting their potential contribution to the airport's wider revenue strategy.

Bristol Airport wanted to create a lounge experience that reflected the start of a holiday, delivered a higher standard of service and comfort, and generated stronger commercial returns. To achieve this, the airport needed a partner capable of moving quickly, delivering a premium product and creating a seamless customer booking experience.

In short, Bristol Airport needed a solution that could transform its lounge offering, increase capacity and improve both passenger satisfaction and financial performance.

The solution

Bristol Airport partnered with Cavu to redevelop and relaunch its lounge proposition.

In March 2023, Cavu took over two lounge spaces, including one that had been unused for three years. With the busy summer season approaching, the team worked at pace to design, fit out and launch the new lounge operation in just 45 days.

Drawing on expertise from its wider lounge portfolio, Cavu created a premium 140-seat lounge environment designed to balance customer experience with commercial performance. The new space combined comfortable seating, modern interiors and an enhanced food and beverage offering to create a welcoming environment for travellers.

Alongside the physical transformation, Cavu developed an effective digital booking journey to drive pre-bookings and online sales. Working closely with Bristol Airport, the team also optimised bookings through the airport's own channels, ensuring a collaborative approach to maximise demand and revenue.

The results

The new lounge offering delivered strong results for both Bristol Airport and its passengers, increasing capacity across two lounges, growing from 110 seats to 250 seats.

The transformation helped convert an underutilised space into a high-performing commercial asset while significantly improving the passenger experience. Strong growth in pre-bookings and online sales demonstrated the effectiveness of combining a premium lounge product with a seamless digital booking journey.

The success of the project has also strengthened the partnership between Bristol Airport and Cavu, creating opportunities to introduce additional lounge products and continue innovating the passenger experience.

Through the COVID recovery period it became clear that passengers wanted the option of a more relaxed environment to enjoy some time before their flight. Our previous lounge provider struggled to meet this need, so when a new space became available to build a bigger lounge, we wanted to make sure passenger experience and a relaxed environment were at the heart of what we offered. Visiting Cavu's lounges in Manchester Airport showed us that these priorities were a high focus for them too, and that helped influence our decision during the tender evaluation. The new lounge has been fitted out to a high standard and really does offer passengers a premium experience. We've been highly impressed, and the look and feel of the lounge has exceeded our expectations.
